“Fake It Till You Make It”
Have you ever heard the phrase "fake it until you make it"? Growing up I had an idea of what the interview process was about, but didn't really know all that it entailed. When I went to interview for my first official job I was beyond nervous. It didn't help that I had a group of people glaring at me from one side of the table as I sat on the other almost sick to my stomach because of the way I felt inside. Despite how uncomfortable and insecure I actually was, I made sure that they didn't have an inkling of how I truly felt and assured that confidence, intelligence and determination exuded from my being as I answered their questions one by one. I tried my best to leave a lasting impression so that they wouldn't have a choice but to absolutely want me as part of their company. Needless to say I was offered the position and achieved one of my goals.
There will always be times when we will find ourselves in situations where we are not the most comfortable or confident but it will be important to make a good impression. When circumstances like these occur it is pertinent to do our best to step out of our comfort zones and push past the insecurities that arise and in a sense play a role to get through it, hence the phrase "fake it until you make it". In others words act like the person that you want to be until you actually become the person that you are meant to be. We must also do those things that will make room for what we essentially want to have and move in a way that coincides with that. When practicing this method, it is first crucial to figure out who and what we want to be and have. Once this is determined, we can then maintain a healthy mindset and take the necessary steps in attracting those specific things that we want in our lives.
One of the most prominent ideas concerning this is that of The Law of Attraction. This idea was first introduced by author Helena Blavatsky in her 1877 book “The Secret Doctrine” and was popularized further by Prentice Mulford’s essay “The Law of Success” published fully in 1887. The law is the belief that like energy attracts like energy, positive energy brings forth positive results just as negative energy brings forth negative results. This theory is solely based off of the thought process. It is known that our thoughts control our actions which determines how we move and what we attracted in our lives, because of this, It is a good idea to make a conscious effort to monitor our thought those times when we find ourselves in unfavorable situations so that our mind set remains positive. When we do this our actions will follow suit. If we do this enough times, no matter how unnatural or uncomfortable, it will soon become habit and ultimately make us who we were created to be without having to play the role. This will allow those things that we want to present themselves in our lives and to manifest consistently. According to the law of attraction, it is ultimately up to us what we choose to bring into our lives, both good and bad.
So here's a little food for thought, as philosopher, Lao Tzu puts it, "watch your thoughts, they become words; watch your words, they become actions; watch your actions, they become habits; watch your habits, they become character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.” At the end of the day, in order to attract greatness, obtain those things that we want and become the person that we are called to be, we must operate in a way that is great by practicing to be who we aspire to be even if that means to fake it till we make it our reality.
